The Salvadoran government is implementing measures to benefit producers and ensure family income through agricultural markets. Producers who join these markets offer their products at competitive prices.
. “As the Agromarkets expand, more and more producers and importers are joining to offer their products at competitive prices. They are already selling rice and beans: 1 pound of each (2 pounds in total) for $1.50. There will be more and more variety, better prices and more locations. Little by little, prices will continue to drop even further,” highlighted the President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele.
This initiative creates spaces where food producers can offer their goods directly to consumers, bypassing intermediaries and ensuring fair prices. It also promotes national production.
“Right now we are buying potatoes at $0.60 per pound, while in other places they are at $0.80 and in some even over $1.10. Besides the fact that the product is fresh, there is a difference of up to $0.40 less than other prices,” said Omar, a buyer at the Agromercados.
