Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, denounced the Government of National Accord’s request for Egyptian intelligence officials at the embassy in Tripoli to leave Libyan territory.

Saleh said in a brief statement on the council’s official Facebook account that the “irresponsible” actions of the “expired” government against the Arab Republic of Egypt do not represent the Libyan people, as they have relations that will not be spoiled by any attempts at disagreements.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the government assigned by the House of Representatives expressed its surprise at the statement of the Government of National Unity, describing it as a violation of the laws and decisions issued by the elected House of Representatives.

Hamad’s Foreign Ministry expressed its appreciation for what it described as Egypt’s supportive stance towards bilateral relations between the two countries, praising the official reception of its President Osama Hamad and his accompanying delegation, according to the ministry.

Hamad’s Foreign Ministry described the security situation in the capital, Tripoli, as “unstable,” calling on all countries to move their embassies to the city of Benghazi, which it described as a “safe and stable” area.

A source from the Libyan Government of National Unity confirmed to Al-Ahrar yesterday, Sunday, that the government informed Egyptian intelligence officials among the employees of the embassy in Tripoli to leave Libyan territory immediately.

This report comes hours after Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly received the head of the government assigned by the House of Representatives, Osama Hamad, accompanied by the Director of the “Development and Reconstruction Fund of Libya” Belqasim Haftar, to discuss the role of Egyptian companies in the reconstruction of Libya.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity expressed in a statement yesterday evening, Sunday, its strong dissatisfaction and absolute rejection of Egypt’s official reception of Hammad, describing it as a step that represents “a departure from the unity of the international position that rejects the country’s return to a state of division and conflict.”

The Government of National Unity stressed in its statement that since the beginning of its work, it has strived to overcome the state of international polarization and deal in a balanced manner with all countries related to the Libyan file, especially with the Arab Republic of Egypt.
