Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, welcomed the Security Council statement, stressing the call on the various parties to calm down and stop taking measures, issuing decisions, or engaging in actions that would destabilize, deepen institutional division, and undermine trust among Libyans.

Saleh called for the necessity of adhering to the provisions of the constitutional declaration and the political agreement, which stipulate the powers and competencies of the House of Representatives in assigning sovereign positions in consultation with the State Council, considering the decision issued to assign a governor and a board of directors for the Central Bank as null and void because it was issued by someone who is not a specialist and lacks reasons and is in violation of the constitutional declaration and the political agreement.

Saleh stressed the House of Representatives’ commitment to the outcomes of the (6+6) Committee and the laws related to the election of the President of the State and the National Assembly, calling for immediate action to organize elections under the auspices of a new unified government to ensure integrity and transparency and in consultation with the State Council.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives also renewed the Council’s support for the UN mission and its efforts to get the country out of the crisis, calling on the State Council to consult with the aim of implementing the outcomes of the (6+6) Committee as soon as possible and moving forward on the political track to ensure and protect the country’s unity and stability.

The UN Security Council issued a statement last Wednesday expressing its concern over the recent developments in Libya, calling for an urgent refrain from taking any unilateral measures and reaching a consensual solution to the current crisis related to the Central Bank of Libya.
