Ahead of the Olympics: France is exploring the use of taxis in airplanes

by time news

Traveling in a flying car is undoubtedly a fantasy, but will the idea soon become a reality? As part of a first-of-its-kind project, the first flying taxis will take off at the 2024 Olympic Games to be held in France and will be used to transport passengers. This project is overseen by the Paris transport network and the French General Directorate of Civil Aviation.

A series of tests for this service should begin several months before the Olympic Games in Paris 2024. If the trial is successful, it will allow airlines to launch a similar service between 2028-2030. Many industrial companies and aviation professionals are involved in the flying taxi project, including the aircraft manufacturer Airbus, Safran, the Chinese drone manufacturer Yihang and Wolfcopter, a company that develops electric flying taxis on its own.

This project was launched in 2019 with great fanfare even before the first tests took place. Since then, Pontoise Airport in Ile-de-France has been chosen as a place to conduct experiments under real conditions for future flying taxis. “We will build here the first European airport for flying cars,” said Augustin de Romney, CEO of Groupe ADP, during the inauguration of this area.
