jpnn.com – Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Ahmad Sahroni, hopes that the National Police can work optimally in monitoring security conditions during the implementation of the simultaneous regional elections, especially regarding hoaxes and hate speech on social media.

According to Sahroni, the simultaneous regional elections will be no less ‘hot’ than the presidential election, especially in digital spaces such as social media which is one of the arenas for the battle of ideas.

“Well, the role of the Police here is to ensure that there are no hoaxes that can divide society,” said Sahroni in a written statement in Jakarta, Wednesday (11/9/2024).

The NasDem Party legislator said that hate speech and slander content must also be monitored. No party should intentionally lead opinion and mislead the public.

“I am sure the police can 100% maintain security throughout the regional elections,” he said.

Sahroni said that currently there are many parties who can manipulate facts through social media. He does not want excessive tolerance to lead to misleading information.

“However, it does not mean that the Police must be overly reactive, there is no need. Let the dialectic process occur on social media, but if there are any that go too far and meet the elements of a crime, yes, they must be handled and even processed,” he said.

According to Sahroni, firmness in taking action against perpetrators of spreading hoaxes and hate speech is also needed as a deterrent effect.

Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR, Ahmad Sahroni, believes that the Police can maximally maintain security during the regional elections, including on social media.
