jpnn.comJAKARTA – Deputy Chairman of Commission IV DPR RI Ahmad Yohan asked the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) to move quickly (gercep) to overcome the outbreak of bovine foot and mouth disease (FMD) which is currently affecting at least 7 provinces in Indonesia.

Since mid-December 2024 until now, seven provinces have experienced a spike in cattle FMD cases, namely East Java, Central Java, West Java, Banten, DKI Jakarta, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), and Lampung.

“The government, in this case the Ministry of Agriculture, must be quick in ensuring that the FMD outbreak does not spread widely,” said Yohan in a press statement, Friday (10/1).

The Ministry of Agriculture, said the PAN politician, must also ensure that there is sufficient availability of PMK vaccine to be distributed to cattle breeders.

“The number of cattle in Indonesia is around 12 million head. “At least, the Ministry of Agriculture must ensure that much vaccine is needed,” explained Yohan.

The MN KAHMI Presidium also said that supervision of cattle traffic in each region must be tightened, in order to prevent the spread of FMD cases.

“If there are cases of transmission found, immediately close the cattle market, carry out quarantine. “Don’t just keep it open because it can spread through buying and selling cattle,” said Yohan.

Regarding recurring cases of FMD, Yohan asked the Ministry of Agriculture to provide routine education, mitigation and assistance to breeders to prevent or minimize these cases from occurring in the future.
