The Supreme Court has ruled in favor of Edappadi Palaniswami in the case against the resolutions of AIADMK General Assembly. It has been announced that AIADMK general committee will go through this.
Edappadi Palaniswami was elected as the interim general secretary of the AIADMK on July 11 last year. When a case was filed against this in the Madras High Court, O. Panneer Selvam’s side was ruled against and an appeal was made to the Supreme Court. In it, “The general body meeting has been held in violation of the party rules. Therefore, the resolutions passed in the General Assembly should be declared null and void.” As reported.
At the same time, Edappadi Palaniswami’s side requested the Supreme Court that the General Assembly results have been submitted to the Election Commission and the Election Commission should be ordered to take a decision quickly. Also, Edappadi Palaniswami’s lawyers insisted that due to the Erode-East constituency by-elections, there is an urgent need to take a decision.
Following this, the Supreme Court sent a notice to the Election Commission. To that, the Election Commission had stated that the question of who owns the double leaf symbol has not yet been raised, and the Election Officer had replied to the Supreme Court that the Election Officer would take a decision on the symbol at the appropriate time. Following this, pending the judgment of the case, the Supreme Court ordered the Election Commission to decide who will bear the double leaf symbol in the Erode-East by-election in the interim.
Accordingly, it was decided that the EPS side may also participate in the selection of the candidate and that the decision should be reported to the election commission by the chairman of the general committee, Tamil Mahan Usayn, within a certain time frame. According to that decision, the double leaf symbol has been given to the EPS-backed candidate, and it was announced that the Supreme Court will give its verdict today.
Therefore, the interest in the AIADMK general committee verdict was high as the judgment delivered by Supreme Court Justices Dinesh Maheshwari and Sanjay Kumar will decide whether the double leaf symbol will go to EPS or OPS.
In this situation, at exactly 10.30 am today in the Supreme Court, the bench of Justices Dinesh Maheshwari and Sanjay Kumar started reading the verdict. Accordingly, the AIADMK general committee has given an action decision that it will go in support of Edappadi Palaniswami.
Following this, the volunteers who have been waiting for the verdict at the AIADMK head office in Rayapetta, Chennai since morning have been celebrating by bursting firecrackers and giving sweets.
Even though the Supreme Court has given a decision like pouring milk to Edappadi Palaniswami’s side, it is like melting tamarind to Panneer Selvam’s side, and political observers are expressing their opinion that this is the end of the political life of OPS, who created a great stir in Tamil Nadu politics by conducting Dharma Yuddha.
