by time news

The party has announced that the election for the post of general secretary of AIADMK will be held on March 26. This news collection describes the political movements in AIADMK before this election announcement.

The ‘single leadership’ buzz: AIADMK organizational elections scheduled to be held in 2019 were postponed due to Corona. Subsequently, post-wise elections were announced in December 2021, and O. Panneerselvam was selected as the coordinator, Palaniswami as the co-coordinator and gradually the district secretaries and administrators were selected.

Executive Committee and general body meeting should get approval for elected executives. Only then, it can be submitted to the Election Commission. On this occasion, AIADMK Executive Committee and General Committee meeting was scheduled to be held in Chennai on 23rd of 2022.

A consultation meeting was held at the AIADMK head office in Chennai. Coordinator O. Panneerselvam, Co-Coordinator Palaniswami and other important executives of the party participated in this. In this consultative meeting, the chief executives and district secretaries insisted that ADMK should have a single leadership. The issue created a stir in the party.

Case seeking injunction to General Assembly: OPS and EPS factions split into two factions due to single leadership dispute in AIADMK. In a case filed in the Madras High Court seeking a ban on the general body meeting scheduled to be held on June 23, the single judge gave permission to hold the general body meeting. In the case of appeal filed by the OPS against this, a general body can be held. But only 23 resolutions which have already been approved can be passed. It decided not to decide the others.

General Assembly meeting again on July 11: OPS and EPS attended the general body meeting on June 23. Tamil son Usain was chosen as the party’s president. CV Shanmugam presented the petition signed by 2,190 general assembly members. Accepting this, it was announced that the general committee meeting will be held again on July 11, 2022. Protesting against OPS and his supporters, they walked out of the General Assembly meeting.

EPS Selection: OPS again sued to ban the general meeting scheduled to be held on July 11. Following the Madras High Court’s permission to hold the general body meeting, a resolution was passed appointing Edappadi Palaniswami as the interim general secretary of the AIADMK in the general body meeting held on July 11. Following this, his supporters including former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam were expelled from the party.

Case in Supreme Court: A petition was filed in the Madras High Court by O. Panneerselvam against this general committee. In this, the Madras High Court ruled that the AIADMK General Committee will go. The appeal filed by OPS against this judgment was continued in the Supreme Court in a bench comprising Justices Dinesh Maheshwari and Rishikesh Roy.

Verdict that the General Assembly will go: After the arguments of all parties in this case were completed, the Supreme Court, which ruled on 23rd of last month, confirmed the order of the Madras High Court, stating that the AIADMK General Committee meeting held on 11th July will go ahead.

Litigation against resolutions of General Assembly: In this case, OPS supporters Vaithilingam, Manoj Pandian and J.C.D.Prabhakar had filed a petition in the Madras High Court seeking annulment of the AIADMK general committee resolutions passed by removing them from the party. In this case, a reply was filed by EPS. In it, this case, which was filed eight months after the resolutions of the General Assembly came into effect, has become invalid. Therefore, it is said that the case should be dismissed with penalty.
