We have a lot to celebrate together! At the International Film Academy, 2023 was full of action. They were more than 50 films produced throughout the year between the Filmworks, Free Cinema and Documentary courses, a web series produced by students of the Technical Course in Acting for Cinema and TV (featured photo), and 7 more short films are scheduled for January 2024, signaling that another busy year comes around. Not just behind the camera, but in front of it and beyond, with lectures, round tables, exhibitions, festivals, pocket shows and content programming for Aicinematic, our YouTube channel.

Events and guests

Directors, actors, producers and audiovisual professionals came to AIC to present their work and discuss topics about creation and the market with students and the general public.

From March 6th to 13th, the 17th Orientation Week featured film screenings and talks by actresses Naruna Costa, protagonist of the series Brotherhood (Netflix) and Sol Miranda, protagonist of the film Rule 34, winner of the 75th Locarno Festival; filmmakers Cristiano Burlan, director of the award-winning film The motherit’s Moara Passoni, corroterist of Vertigo Democracy, nominated for an Oscar for best documentary and director of Ecstasy; as well as photographer and producer Gabriel Uchida, from the award-winning film Territorywinner at the 2022 Sundance Festival.

From July 31st to August 3rd, a 11ª Cinema and Market Week promoted discussions on fundamental themes for the cinema industry: Work (with the president of Sindcine Sonia Santana, directors of Sated-SP Jandilson Vieira and Rita Teles, and cultural producer Gabrielle Araújo), Festivals (with festival programmer Eduardo Valente, and delegate for Brazil at the Berlin festival), Streaming (with the lawyer Fabio Cesnik and the producer Fabiano Gullane) and Inclusion (with the peripheral cultural coordinator André Haag, the coordinator in the education area of ​​the Instituto Criar Luma Reis and the director of photography at Quilombarte Julia Barbosa Fonseca.

On August 8, filmmaker Jorge Bodanzky (Iracema – An Amazonian Fuck, Cine Mambembe – Cinema Discovers Brazil, Utopia Dystopia) Gave one free masterclass and open to the public at the invitation of the Documentary course.

On October 21st, we had the 12º Filmworks Film Festival, competitive exhibition of short films by AIC students at MIS – Museu de Imagem e Som, in São Paulo. The short films competed in 13 categories: Direction, Screenplay, Photography, Editing, Art Direction, Sound, Main Acting, Supporting Acting, Best Film, New Vision, Free Short, Best Documentary and Popular Jury, with awards offered by partner companies Gullane Entretenimento , NayMovie, Utimura, Rafael Peixoto Fotografia, Link Digital, MUBI, Sonidos del Tropico and Oaloo.

Throughout the year we also had pocket shows with AIC Talentswith musical performances by students of the Technical Acting for Cinema and TV (TAC) course Castelluni, and Roberta Lisa, as well as student of the Technician course in Cinematographic Direction (Filmworks) Sofia Borghi and former TAC student and editing professor from AIC Digital Fox.

Students of the Technical Acting for Film and TV (TAC) course provided free offices Dance and Yoga to AIC colleagues and alumni throughout the year. The meetings ended up producing a video clip made by the participants themselves, the Greatest Show King. Assita here.

In August there was a free webinar on How to Make a Scriptwith professor and screenwriter Pedro Salomão and in September a free in-person masterclass on Character Arcs with professor and screenwriter, Thiago Fogaça and the launch of his book History and Scripta comprehensive storytelling and script guide, the result of more than 12 years of experience in the international market.

Acinematic, our new YouTube Channel

Since April, our YouTube channel, Aicinematicstarted to bring a series of exclusive audiovisual content, alongside AIC’s educational and institutional content. Some of the new web series we launched in 2023:

The Black Box

A weekly interview program with great audiovisual professionals. Interviewees include Tata Amaral, Julia Murat, Rodrigo Teixeira, Sergio Machado, Rejane Faria, Mel Lisboa, and many other big names in Brazilian and international cinema and TV.

X-Ray Cinema

Monthly program that presents film reviews and analysis, with the participation of guest critics. The first editions featured critics Filippo Pitanga and Dalila Camargo Martins, professors at AIC.

Inside the Scene

Over the course of 17 episodes, it shows the secrets and techniques used by the team involved in the dramaturgy and production of a cinematic scene in terms of direction, script, art direction, photography direction and editing.

Student Ailin Elias won the Best Short Film award at the V MOV – Pernambuco International University Film Festival by I’m waiting for you to come backdirected by former Cinema course student – ​​Vacation Intensive Marina Lavarini.

Four films by students and teachers were selected for the 26th Tiradentes Exhibition.

Student shorts were shown at the Santa Cecilia Station Cultural Spaceas part of the Linha da Cultura program, linked to the Communications and Marketing Management of the São Paulo Metro.

The former student of the Technical Acting for Film and TV course Julia Cortez participated in the cast of the second season of the series Everything Is the Same…SQNoriginal Brazilian production of Disney+.

The documentary Faces of Old Chicoby Tiago Ferraro, former student of the Documentary course, and journalist Fernanda Kiehl premiered on Chinesesc from Rua Augusta.

The screenwriter and film critic from Pará and professor at AIC Lorenna Montenegro was one of the international voters in the 81st edition of the Golden Globe.

The art direction professor at AIC Monica Palazzo signed the Art direction of the movie The Smoke Masterby André Sigwalt and Augusto Soares.

The former student Guilherme Corrêa, from the Acting Technician course for Cinema and TV, participated in the cast of the series Teen Kissproduced by HBO Maxand the film Evidence of Lovestarring Fábio Porchat and Sandy.

Gabriel Vidal, former student of the Technical Course in Cinematographic Direction – Filmworks, had his film One Photo a Day selected for festivals Filmaê – Brasília Mobile Film Festival 2023 e Short Way International Short Film Festival.

Former student of the free Interpreting for Film and TV course Kyvilin Padilha was part of the cast of Perfect love6pm soap opera Rede Globoparticipated in the new series of Globoplay The Others and acted as a stuntman in several serials.

The film Village Cardsdirected by a former student of the Technical Film Direction course, Lyrio was selected for the festival Embaúba Play and is available on the streaming platform.

Student of the Multiplatform Presenter course and former student of the Acting Technician for Cinema and TV course Caroline Cherulli was selected to participate in the reality show Open Microphonein partnership between TV Bandeirantes and social network KWAI.

The film A Portion of Wrathproduced by former student of the Technical Course in Cinematographic Direction Filmworks, Gabriel VidalIt was awarded no Marina Del Rey Film Festivalin Los Angeles.

Twelve films directed by students of the Film Direction Technician course – Filmworks premiered on the streaming platform À la Carte, do Petra Belas Artes Cinema.

Six films created by students and teachers were selected for the 34th São Paulo International Short Film Festival – Curta Kinoforum.

Director Lina Chamie, professor of the Technician in Cinematographic Direction – Filmworks course and the Technician in Acting for Cinema and TV course, won o Grand Prize of Brazilian Cinema 2023 in the Best Documentary Feature Film category with the work Kobra Self Portrait.

The teacher of the Technical Acting for Cinema and TV course, Sabrina Greve, took on a double role in the new series Beyond the Wardrobetransmitted by HBO Maxas director and casting preparer.

Six films carried out by AIC students were selected for the New York Brazilian Film Festival (NYBRFF) which takes place on the 23rd and 24th of September.

The AIC directing professor Maria Tuca Fachin premiered his most recent work, the film Everything that grows and fliesduring the Première Brasil gala session at Rio Festival.

Former student and actress Rayssa Zago won his first fixed role in the soap opera The Childhood of Romeo and Julietproduced by SBT. He also made his film debut with a role in the film The hijacking of Flight 375, directed by Marcus Baldini.

Former student of the Interpretation for Film and TV course Leticia Rudra makes up the film’s cast Under Concretedirected by Gabriel Machado de Araújo and shown on 15th edition of Cinefantasy.

The film Raiseddirected by Jhonnã Bao, student of the Technical Film Direction – Filmworks course (with the participation of students and former students in the team), received three awards at the 56th edition of the Brasília Film Festival.

Guilherme Dourado, former student of the Technical Acting for Cinema and TV course, debuted in the new series of Globoplay Betinho – No Fio da Razhaand participated in the third season of the series Basic Unit and Universal TV.

Cristino Burlan, former AIC student, premiered his documentary Antunes Filho – from the Heart to the Eye, an original production by SescTV.
