/ Al-Quwa Sports Club threatened, on Monday, to withdraw from the Iraq Stars League if the Central Football Association did not take a decisive decision regarding what happened in Dohuk Stadium yesterday, indicating that it was subjected to an “assassination attempt” and survived a bloody toll.

In a statement received by Agency, the club expressed its deep regret for the attempts that took place in Dohuk Stadium, which it described as “barbaric and brutal,” noting that they almost led to the lives of the team’s players, adding, “If it had not been for God’s kindness and wisdom, we would have come out with a bloody toll in a stadium that we did not feel.” He was safe from the first minute until the last minute.”

He explained that, apart from the result of the loss, we survived a real assassination attempt on a number of our players in a terrifying and unprecedented scene that reflects a negative image of our beloved Iraq, after the clear and explicit assault with hurtful iron tools in front of the eyes of the whole world, which almost led to the lives of our players, because the infringement was clear. The intention was to intentionally hit and harm the players.

He added that our team lived in the last 20 minutes of the match under an atmosphere of fear, panic and anxiety, indicating that our club delegation was only thinking about getting out safely, before thinking about the result, which is certainly worth nothing in the face of the players’ lives.

He stated that our team paid the price for the lack of security in the Dohuk match, and here we are surprised how the match supervisor and its referee, who was absent from the scene, ordered the match to be held without adequate security protection, ignoring the regulations and instructions of the Iraq Stars League. Indeed, the referee punished the attacker, our goalkeeper Muhammad Hamid, with a red card. Leaving the aggressors behind, but encouraging them to continue the violence and beatings on the field in a strange, painful and sad scene. The referee and match supervisor should have taken the initiative for the safety of the players, not to reward the aggressors.

The statement continued, “After everything that happened, we remained wise and did not withdraw from the match out of our club’s keenness to contain the situation, ensure everyone’s safety, and not repeat (Por Said) in our league, but now we call on the Iraqi Football Association to implement the regulations and laws without courtesy against the Dohuk Club and its fans.” Emphasis is placed on the fact that the match witnessed threats to the lives of the players, and this matter is proven and documented and caused our team to lose the match. Accordingly, we demand the implementation of the FIFA regulations to hold matches outside appropriate security conditions and to restore rights, justice and fairness to our club.

The statement stressed that if the Iraqi Federation does not take a firm decision in accordance with international regulations, we will take a decision to withdraw from the Iraq Stars League, since the Federation is unable to ensure the safety of our players, and is encouraging, intentionally or not, the continuation of riots and violence and perhaps even murder soon, because… The Federation cannot guarantee the safety of our players, most of whom are international and professional players.
