Air France plans to leave Orly to Transavia

By 2026, Air France will gradually leave Orly and make way for its “low-cost” subsidiary Transavia. International flights will be more concentrated at Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle, while domestic flights will be more at Orly.

Since 2019, Air France has suffered from the digitalization of professional activities and energy efficiency policies; post-Covid, traditional companies have struggled to regain their patronage, particularly on short routes and travel for professional reasons. “Low-cost” companies, on the other hand, benefit from growing demand.

For these reasons, the activities of Air France and Transavia will be a little more delimited. As reported by AFP, six lines from Orly will be eliminated: three to Overseas (Pointe-à-Pitre, Fort-de-France and Saint-Denis de La Réunion) and three others in mainland France (Toulouse, Marseille and Nice). Transavia will take over to these last three cities from the same airport.

Transavia will thus become “the Air France Group’s reference operator from Paris-Orly airport,” the group detailed in a press release.

Exception for Corsica: “In accordance with the specifications of the Public Service Delegation (DSP): Air France connections to/from Corsica would remain provided from Paris-Orly,” explained the company.

On the social side, Air France wants to be reassuring. The approximately 430 ground employees at Orly will have an equivalent position at Roissy, and those in large provincial towns should not suffer too much from the change in activity. Which did not prevent the president of the Republicans Eric Ciotti from denouncing a decision “without any consultation”, “shameful and scandalous”, which “contempts the territories”.
