Air India announced its commitment to order 250 Airbus aircraft to power its domestic and international operations. As a consequence of this order to the commercial division of Airbus, Air India commissioned Rolls Royce 68 Trent XWB-97 engines, with an option for 20 more. This is the largest order for Trent XWB-97 engines in history.

The Trent XWB-97 exclusively powers the Airbus A350-1000. Air India has also ordered 12 Trent XWB-84 engines, which exclusively power the Airbus A350-900.

It is the first time that an Indian airline has ordered the Trent XWB and the deal will make Air India the largest operator of the Trent XWB-97 in the world. Financial details of the order have not been disclosed.
