Air quality in the Paris metro: an investigation targeting the RATP opened by the prosecution

by time news

The Paris public prosecutor’s office opened an investigation in February into the air quality in the capital’s metro, after a complaint filed by the Respire association in March 2021. The latter accuses the Régie of “deception and involuntary injuries” in due to poor air quality inside the metro.

In an opinion made public last June, the National Health Security Agency (Anses) was alarmed by the fact that the concentrations of fine particles in Parisian railway enclosures were “on average three times higher than in the urban outdoor air. “. At the time, ANSES called on the public transport authorities of seven French cities (Paris, Marseille, Lyon, Lille, Toulouse, Rennes and Rouen) to do more against these polluting emissions by renewing their rolling stock, multiplying the systems ventilation and air quality measurement sensors.

The public prosecutor’s office confirmed the opening of an investigation for “endangering others and deception on the provision of a service involving a danger to human health” which was entrusted to the Central Office for the Fight against damage to the environment and public health (OCLAESP).
