Air service in Puducherry … expansion; Scheduled to launch in October

Puducherry: The flight service from Puducherry to Tirupati and Kochi cities is going to be started in October. From Puducherry, Laspetai Airport, ‘Spice Jet’ company started flight service to Bangalore in 2013 and ‘Air India’ company in 2015. However, these services were stopped due to insufficient response from passengers.

‘Udhan’ scheme



Meanwhile, with a view to increasing air services across the country, the central government has announced a new air charter. Accordingly, it was planned to connect small cities by air under the ‘Udhan’ scheme. In that, it was announced that the central government would accept half of the air fare of the passengers and give it to the airlines. Along with the plan, the Puducherry government took action to restart the suspended air service. With the efforts of the government, ‘Spice Jet’ company started air service to Hyderabad in August 2017. After this was well received by the passengers, it started the service to Bangalore.

Disabled service



After that Bengaluru flight service was stopped. During the Corona period, air services were completely non-existent. Finally, no flight from Puducherry after March 22, 2020.

Restart

After two years, air service resumed in Puducherry from March 27. The contract with ‘Spice Jet’ has been renewed and the flight is being operated to Bengaluru and Hyderabad. At present Bombaydier aircraft with 78 seats is being operated to these cities.

Expansion

In this case, the state government has decided to start air service from Puducherry to some other cities. Currently, ‘Spice Jet’ flights are being operated from Puducherry to Bangalore and Hyderabad. In this case, one more flight to Bangalore will be operated from Puducherry. Air Alliance has come forward to operate it on all days. The negotiations for this have been completed. Apart from this, the flight service to Tirupati and Kochi from Puducherry is also going to be started.

Advantage for passengers

These flight services are scheduled to start from October 30. The flight service from Puducherry to Kochi will be started only on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The flight to Tirupati is going to be operated on four days namely Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. ‘Spice Jet’ company has come forward to operate flights to these two cities. A large number of people travel from Puducherry to Tirupati by train and bus. Tourists flock to Puducherry from Kochi on weekends. With the expansion of air services, tourism development in the state is expected to move to the next level.
