Air taxi flies to Rome – Science – Kommersant

by time news

Passengers who arrive in Rome in 2024 will be able to reach the center of Rome by air. Such is the plan of the management company of Fiumicino airport and Volocopter, a German startup that developed air taxi.

Of course, the German air taxi does not run on an internal combustion engine, but on batteries. The car has two seats. It takes off and sits vertically.

Marco Troncone, CEO of Fiumicino, promises that a taxi ride to Rome city center will take about 15 minutes – no traffic jams! – and will cost passengers 150 euros. This is for a start, he says, as the service develops, the price will inevitably fall.

“A very easy transfer,” continues Troncone, “a quiet, fast flight and, most importantly, zero carbon emissions!”

Volocopter was created in 2011. The startup has been in the process of obtaining a flight license from the European Aviation Safety Agency for three years, says Christian Bauer, commercial director of Volocopter.

Rome will be the third largest European city to offer a convenient and safe air taxi service. Another of the cities is Paris, where there is hope to be in time until 2024, when the city will host the Olympics, and Berlin.
