by times news cr

“airBaltic” explains that these rights are part of the initial aircraft order, which was announced during the “Dubai Airshow 2023” aviation exhibition, when the airline company approved a contract for the purchase of 30 aircraft with the right for the company to purchase 20 more aircraft of this type.

It is planned that an additional 40 “A220-300” aircraft will begin to be delivered in 2026.

Thus, the airline wants to increase the “A220-300” fleet to almost 100 aircraft by 2030. Currently, airBaltic has 48 Airbus A220-300 aircraft in its fleet.

The first aircraft of this type was delivered to the airline at the end of 2016, but since May 2020 “airBaltic” operates all flights only with “Airbus A220-300” aircraft. Until now, “airBaltic” has transported more than 16.3 million passengers with “A220-300” airplanes. In total, the airline has made around 183,000 flights with them and has flown more than 401,000 hours.

It has already been reported that “airBaltic” carried a total of 4.536 million passengers last year, which is 35.7% more than in 2022, and made 44,100 flights, which is 18.3% more than the year before.

The audited turnover of “airBaltic” last year amounted to 664.289 million euros, which is 33.2% more than in 2022, and the company also made a profit of 33.852 million euros, in contrast to losses a year earlier.

The Latvian state owns 97.97% of “airBaltic” shares, while “Aircraft Leasing 1” owned by financial investor, Danish businessman Lars Tūsen – 2.03%.
