DISPATCH — Last May, while spending a weekend in Haute-Savoie in an Airbnb apartment, two young women discovered that they were being filmed without their knowledge. The owner of the accommodation had concealed a camera in an alarm clock, which he had pointed towards the shower.
“This guy had hundreds of positive reviews. Looks like he was just the right family man,” Madison told France Blue.
After realizing that a camera was hiding in the alarm clock, she took photos and shared her experience on TikTok. Then, she went to the gendarmerie, where she discovered with the soldiers a 32 gigabyte SD card, containing videos of 14 other tenants.
“I don’t know what the guy did behind his phone, because this camera was connected to the internet, and with an application, it is possible to watch everything live”, worries the young woman.
While the Annecy prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation for capturing images and invasion of privacy, Airbnb assure having “deleted the host’s account as well as the ad from the platform”.
The problem is that the young women claim to have found the ad on other rental platforms. They therefore call on tenants to be extremely vigilant, explaining in particular that these cameras can be installed almost everywhere.
