US airline Delta Air Lines has ordered 12 A220 planes from Airbus for its 107-aircraft domestic routes, the two companies announced on the second day of the Farnborough Airshow on Tuesday. This contract has a value of nearly 1.1 billion dollars according to the last catalog price communicated by Airbus, but never applied in reality.
Since the opening of this first major meeting of world aeronautics on Monday in south-west London, the American major has been one of the few to animate the traditional market for order announcements. In particular, it announced on Monday a firm order for 100 models of the 737 MAX 10, the medium-haul aircraft from the American aircraft manufacturer Boeing. This order comes with an option for 30 additional aircraft and totals approximately $13.5 billion at list price.

Delta currently operates 11 A220-300s and has 51 on order, counting the 12 planes ordered on Tuesday, and has 45 A220-100s in its fleet with a capacity of 109 passengers. Manufactured in Mirabel in Canada, the A220 program corresponds to the former CSeries of the Canadian group Bombardier, a program which Airbus took control of in 2017.
As of June 30, Airbus had sold 762 A220 aircraft since the launch of the program, of which 218 have been delivered.
