Many airlines in recent days have begun bypassing the airspace of Iran and Lebanon and suspending flights to Israel and Lebanon due to fears of an escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, Reuters summarizes.
As of this morning, Singapore Airlines is not flying over Iran, but is using alternative routes for the safety of passengers. The company’s flight to Heathrow today, for example, flew over Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, according to Flytradar data.
Taiwan’s EVA Air and China Airlines also do not fly over Iran, operating today’s flights from Amsterdam.
In its newsletter, OpsGroup, an organization that assesses risks in aviation, recommended that its members avoid the airspace of Iran and Iraq. The warning comes a day after Reuters reported that senior Iranian leaders will meet with representatives of their allies from Lebanon, Iraq and Yemen to discuss retaliation against Israel over the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, as well as of a Hezbollah leader in Lebanon.
Many American and European airlines, including Lufthansa, United Airlines, Delta Air and ITA Airways, have already canceled flights to Beirut and Tel Aviv.
However, companies such as “Etihad”, “Emirates”, “FlyDubai”, “Qatar Airways” and “Turkish Airlines” continue to fly over Iran, BTA informs .
