Gampam: Soil testing has started at the airport site at Erumeli near Sabarimala.

It has been decided to construct an airport near Sabarimala where lakhs of devotees visit every year. Originally the runway was planned for 2.7 km. However, since Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram airports have an additional km of runway, special officer Tulasidas has sent a letter to the Civil Aviation Department to construct a 3.5 km runway at Sabarimala.

A team of experts from Delhi is engaged in collecting soil for soil testing. At eight places, pits are dug to a depth of 10 – 20 meters and soil is collected. Soil test results will be given to ‘Louis Perser’ for the construction of the airport.

Also, a ‘survey’ is being carried out to see if there are any problems with the landing and take-off of flights through ‘drone’.
