Airport security tries to swallow money in the Philippines

The incident occurred on September 8, in Terminal 1 of the airport. Security took the passenger’s bag for manual inspection as he passed through the metal detector, according to the newspaper. Manila Bulletin.

The woman then folded the bills into small pieces in an attempt to swallow the money.

‘Indigestible money’

A report from airport authorities said that an employee operating the X-ray machine was seen in the footage passing a bottle of water to the woman, who was trying to swallow the bills.

According to the document, she even ignored a passenger who approached her to ask something.

The screening officer’s supervisor approached her as the woman was nearly choking in her effort to swallow the folded dollar bills.

To disguise it, she used a scarf to cover her mouth, according to the report.

Consequences

In an official statement released on Monday 18th, the airport’s Transportation Security Office stated that the identity of the security officer has been confirmed.

“After the complaint about the disappearance of US$300 was presented to the airport, an investigation was launched to determine the facts, which culminated in a series of measures imposed by the administration on the employees”, states the statement.

“This was the third theft to occur at the location in 2023 alone. But the incident does not reflect the employee code of conduct and core values.”

The department’s deputy administrator, Ma. O Aplasca, said that after confirming the theft, the airport adopted new security measures. The employees involved were fired, prosecuted and reported to the local court.
