Time.news – “The results of 2020 in the sign of an unprecedented crisis due to Covid-19, which Adr has faced by ensuring the functionality of the airport at all times and giving priority to the safety of passengers and staff”.
This is what is stated in the financial statements approved by the board of directors Rome airports, according to which the company closed the year with a loss of 143.4 million euros compared to a profit of 245.2 million euros recorded in 2019
I revenue from airport management consolidated, amounting to 260.7 million euros, decreased overall by 72.3% (-681 million euros) compared to the previous year, recording a negative trend in all components. The passenger traffic, underlines the Adr statement, was particularly impacted by the global spread of Covid-19, overall it decreased by 76.8% compared to 2019, with 11.5 million passengers passed through Fiumicino and Ciampino.
In particular, after the minimum values recorded in the months of April and May 2020, the sdomestic egment showed a slight recovery, closing with a variation of -67.5% compared to 2019; on the other hand, the EU segment was most affected, down by -77.1%, and the Extra-EU segment, down by -84.2% (of which -86.0% relating to long-haul routes).
The year ended with a loss of 143.4 million euros compared to a profit of 245.2 million euros recorded in 2019. To preserve liquidity, it was decided not to proceed with the distribution of dividends during 2020 , carrying forward the 2019 profit of € 245.2 million.
During the year, new sources of financing were activated for a total of 980 million euros, both on the bond and banking market, which bring the Group’s liquidity to 1.097 billion euros as of 31/12/2020.
The aeronautical activities, directly related to traffic trends, they fell by 74.6%, while all other activities recorded a reduction of 66.5%.
Since March, Adr has guaranteed the continuity of the essential public air connection service with Rome, keeping the Fiumicino and Ciampino airports always in operation, promptly activating a cost containment plan with savings of over 30%, or more than 100 million euros, compared to 2019.
The initiatives concerned the rationalization of the use of infrastructures with the closure of Terminals and boarding areas not fully used and the reorganization of operational activities, the use of social safety nets to support employees in a context of strong reduction in operational activity, the activation of an incentive plan voluntary redundancy destined for the age groups closest to retirement, the elimination of variable bonuses and hiring, as well as a renegotiation of the contractual conditions with the main suppliers of the Group.
Also thanks to these initiatives, the Group’s Ebitda remained positive (25.6 million euros), with a decrease of 568.4 million euros compared to 2019.
