The federal government began, this Friday, the 22nd, the special year-end operation at the country’s main airports. The initiative brings together 62 agents from Anac (National Civil Aviation Agency) in the 18 busiest terminals. The inspectors’ objective is to assess whether passengers will receive a quality service and identify problems at each airport. The action takes place every year during the Christmas and New Year period. According to data from the concessionaire Aena, which manages the Congonhas Airport, in São Paulo, between December 22nd and January 2nd, 967 thousand people are expected to pass through the terminal on 5,865 flights. Already in Santos Dumont Airport, in Rio de Janeiro, the expectation is for 337 thousand passengers between December 15th and January 2nd. The number represents a 42% drop in flow, after in October the federal government ordered the reduction of operations at the Rio terminal. Contingent was relocated to the Galeão Airportalso in Rio de Janeiro, where the expectation is for 530 thousand passengers, a volume 86% higher than in the same period last year.

Anac reports that, to date, it has issued around 5 million tickets to passengers at airports spread across the country’s five regions. According to the agency, movement in December should total 18 million. The expectation is for a movement of around 20 million passengers in January. A Infraero (Brazilian Airport Infrastructure Company), which manages 14 airports across the country, expects to serve 386,000 people during the holiday season, on 3,773 flights.
