Bharti Airtel (“Airtel”), one of India’s leading telecommunications service providers, today announced that it has begun repurposing its existing mid-band spectrum to enhance its capacity to meet the rapid growth in network requirements of its 5G traffic. As more and more customers migrate to 5G networks, Airtel is repurposing its mid-band spectrum to expand 5G services on its 1800, 2100, 2300 MHz bands across the country.
When the mid-band spectrum is used, customers will benefit from faster browsing speeds along with better indoor coverage. As the demand for data is increasing, Airtel is also rapidly redeploying its existing spectrum to deliver a great 5G experience to its customers.
Pilot trials of stand-alone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) switches have been conducted in Rewari, Chennai and Bhubaneswar and the results have been encouraging. This capability on 5G networks will enable Airtel to offer new innovative applications, services and solutions through open APIs, different connectivity options and service-based architecture.
Over the past year, Airtel has demonstrated the functionality of 5G across several powerful use cases that have transformed the way customers live their lives and do business. Airtel’s 5G roll-out has been the fastest in the country and is now available across all 28 states and 8 union territories.
