Ajaccio Airport: a sixty-year-old tries to board with a weapon hidden in his suitcase

The events took place around 6:30 a.m., while passengers bound for Paris and Marseille were preparing to board. The alarm at the security inspection station sounds: a weapon has been detected in the double bottom of a suitcase. This is a 22 caliber long rifle handgun. After inspecting the luggage, the security agent calls its owner, but he appears to have disappeared.

In charge of airport management

He actually ran back through the queue to escape the airport. Security agents found documents in the luggage and quickly identified the fugitive. It would be a man in his sixties, executive of the Ajaccio Chamber of Commerce, a structure in charge of the management of ports and airports, according to our colleagues from France 3.

The latter reportedly left the airport to speak with his lawyer, before going to the police a few hours later. The individual was placed in police custody, and the Ajaccio public prosecutor’s office opened an investigation for illegal carrying and transport of a weapon.
