The 2nd Test between India and New Zealand starts yesterday (December 3) at Wankhede, Mumbai. India won the toss and elected to bat first.
Indian openers Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill added 80 runs for the first wicket. New Zealand left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel, who dropped Schupman Gill for 44, ducked out both Pujara and Kohli in his next over.
Mayank Agarwal and Shreyas Iyer then added 80 runs for the 4th wicket. Ajaz Patel knocked down Shreyas Iyer by 18 runs. Rithiman Saha, who was then paired with Mayank Agarwal, drove better. Mayank Agarwal scored a century as the wickets fell at one end but remained stable at the other. At the end of the first day, the Indian team scored 221 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.
Ajaz Patel, who bowled Rithiman Saha for 27 at the start of the second day’s play, sent Ashwin to the Golden Tuck with the next ball. Akshar Patel, who was then paired with Mayank Agarwal, drove well. Ajaz Patel also dropped Mayank Agarwal for 150. Akshar Patel, who hit a half-century, fell to Ajaz’s spin for 52, taking the last 2 wickets himself and taking 10 wickets in a single innings, becoming the 3rd bowler to achieve this feat in Test cricket.
India were all out for 325 in the first innings. Ajaz Patel became the 3rd bowler in Test cricket to take 10 wickets in a single innings. Prior to this, Jim Laker bowler in 1956 and Anil Kumble of India in 1999 had taken 10 wickets in a single innings. Ajaz Patel is currently on the list.
