The 5th regional dialogue on Afghanistan was held in the Russian capital Moscow. In addition to Russia, the heads of the Security Council of India, China, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan participated. National Security Adviser Ajit Doval was present on behalf of India.

Putin Attacks US Forces

In this meeting Russian President Putin said:-

It was wrong for US forces to flee Afghanistan after the Taliban took over. Since then the situation there has not improved. International terrorist organizations including Al-Qaeda have stepped up their operations there.

40 lakh people are in need of urgent humanitarian assistance. Drug trafficking has increased. About 80 percent of the opium on the world market comes from Afghanistan. Some countries may try to take advantage of this situation under the guise of counter-terrorism. We need to find a solution for all these.

The meeting deliberated on finding a solution to the situation in Afghanistan. Fulfilling the promises made by the Taliban on fighting terrorism, drug trafficking, etc. was discussed.

It was decided to hold such meeting annually.
