Moscow: India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval is going to visit Russia on 10-11 September this week. He will participate in the meeting of NSAs of BRICS countries there. Doval’s visit is taking place at a time when a few days ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni expressed confidence in India and China to resolve the Ukraine conflict in their statements. China’s National Security Advisor Wang Yi is also going to be present in this meeting. The Ukraine conflict is going to be on top of the agenda in the meeting. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Russia in July. The very next month, PM Modi reached Ukraine in August. Putin’s statement that came after this has made it clear that India is going to play an important role in stopping the conflict. After the visit to Ukraine and meeting President Zelensky, Prime Minister Modi spoke to President Putin on the phone on August 27. Russia said that during the phone call, PM Modi told Putin about his recent visit to Kiev. During this, PM Modi emphasized India’s commitment to reach a settlement with Ukraine through political and diplomatic means. According to sources, it was decided during this phone call that NSA Doval would visit Moscow. The special thing is that after meeting Zelensky, PM Modi also spoke to US President Joe Biden, who is an important ally of Ukraine.
India is going to play an important role
It is believed that PM Modi talked with President Zelensky about resolving the conflict during his visit to Kiev. Hindustan Times quoted a senior official as saying that ‘India and the world want the Ukraine war to end and in this context PM Modi is talking to all parties. He has no desire to become a mediator between Russia and Ukraine, but supports all initiatives to stop the war so that children and women are not targeted by missiles, rockets and bullets.’
Indian NSA to hold discussions with BRICS allies
NSA Ajit Doval will meet his BRICS counterparts including China and Brazil during his visit to Russia and discuss how this group can take initiative in ending the conflict. Both President Putin and PM Melania have already urged India and China to play a role in conflict resolution. PM Modi has close relations with the leaders of Russia and Ukraine. There is an unbreakable friendship between President Putin and PM Modi. While Putin trusts PM Modi, the Indian leader has also not given Zelensky any reason to distrust him.
Doval is carrying PM Modi’s message
Because of its independent foreign policy, India finds itself in a unique position to be able to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine. India has openly expressed grief over the deaths of children due to the conflict and has appealed to stop it. At the same time, it has not publicly condemned Moscow directly for the military operation. Sources say that NSA Doval will carry PM Modi’s peace plan, which he will hand over to President Putin and discuss it in detail with top Kremlin officials.
