Ajith movie remake case … SJ Surya case against Ponikapur – Supreme Court orders action

Famous director S. J. Surya directed his first film in 1999, Wali. Ajith – Ajith played a double role in this film which was released starring Simran. The film was a huge hit in Tamil. All the songs in Deva music are still enjoyed today.

SJ Surya, who had a different story in the first film, later became one of the leading directors in Tamil. Thus, strength filmmaker Bonnie Kapoor bought the rights to remake SJ Surya’s record-breaking Wali film in Hindi.

But SJ insisted that Bonnie Kapoor should be banned from remaking Wali in Hindi. Surya approached the court. The case was dismissed in the Chennai High Court in favor of Bonnie Kapoor.

Following this, director SJ Surya acted in the Supreme Court in connection with the Wali remake. In 2017, the film’s director Thiyagaraja Kumararaja filed a lawsuit against the filmmakers of Aranya Kandam, ruling that “the dubbing rights of the film belong to the producer but the remake rights belong to the writer”.

SJ Surya had appealed to the Supreme Court based on this judgment. The case was adjudicated today. Accordingly, the Supreme Court has ruled that all the rights related to the remake are in the possession of the producer and therefore there is no impediment to the remake of the Bonnie Kapoor, Wali film which has been duly acquired from him.
