St. Pölten – Six lists are running in this year’s Chamber of Labor elections in Lower Austria, two lists fewer than in 2019. The elections will take place from April 10th to 23rd. The campaigning groups are running for 110 seats in the general assembly of the AK Lower Austria, the workers’ parliament.

You can choose from: the lists AKNÖ President Markus WIESER Group of Social Democratic Trade Unionists (FSG) with AK Lower Austria President and ÖGB NÖ Chairman Markus Wieser as the top candidate, the Lower Austria People’s Party NÖAAB-FCG (NÖAAB-FCG) led by the AK Lower Austria- Vice President Josef Hager, Freedom Workers FPÖ Lower Austria (FA-FPÖ) with top candidate Daniel Jägerbauer, Common Alternative, Independent and Green Trade Unionists (Together AUGE/UG) with top candidate Stefan Taibl, HAK-IŞ/Liste Perspective LP – Burak Şen ( LP) with Burak Şen at the helm, and the Communist Trade Union Initiative International (KOMIintern) with Elisabeth Sahan.

All of the above-mentioned factions have already taken part in the 2019 AK election. This year, the trade union Left Bloc and the Green Trade Unionists Lower Austria list will no longer be running

Absolute majority for FSG

In the 2019 AK election, the FSG under Markus Wieser achieved an absolute majority in the general assembly with 61.9 percent and 70 seats. The NÖAAB-FCG followed with 21.1 percent and 24 mandates. The FA was also able to achieve eleven mandates with 10.3 percent and the AUGE/UG three mandates with 3.1 percent. GGN and LP were each able to provide one representative at 1.1 percent and 1.4 percent. The voter turnout was 38 percent.

500,000 employees entitled to vote

Around 500,000 employees who work in the state of Lower Austria are entitled to vote in the AK election. The polling stations will be set up in almost 1,000 companies and branches. Eligible voters whose company does not have a polling station can also cast their vote by postal vote from April 10th to 23rd or vote at one of the district and service centers.
