Kyrgyz wrestler Akzhol Makhmudov took gold at the wrestling tournament in Bulgaria in the weight category up to 77 kilograms.

In the final, Makhmudov fought with an athlete from Armenia, but the score of the fight after the final whistle was 1:1. The judges gave the victory to the Kyrgyzstani, as he was the last to win his point.

This is the second gold for wrestlers from Kyrgyzstan in this tournament. Earlier, Zholaman Sharshenbekov won gold in the weight category up to 60 kilograms.

Two more Kyrgyz wrestlers Amantur Ismailov and Uzur Zhusupbekov also took part in the competition, but they could not go beyond the quarterfinals.

Akzhol Makhmudov takes second place in the ranking of the best wrestlers according to the United World Wrestling (UWW) in the weight category up to 77 kilograms. He is the world champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, the gold medalist of the Islamic Solidarity Games and the winner of the Asian Championship, as well as the silver medalist of the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Zholoman Sharshenbekov is considered the best Greco-Roman wrestler of 2022 according to the United World Wrestling (UWW). In addition, the Kyrgyzstani leads the UWW rating in the weight category up to 60 kilograms. He is an Asian champion, two-time World Championship silver medalist and World Cup winner.
