“Al-Baour” participates in many meetings in New York City

At the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Morocco, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity, Taher Baour, participated in the ninth annual ministerial meeting of the group of middle-income countries, on the sidelines of the week of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, in New York.

Al-Baour spoke about “the global economic system that only wants to keep these middle-income countries as their consumers, and they do not want to create real partnerships for sustainable development and combating climate change, and also develop practical plans to develop optimal solutions to illegal immigration by creating strong real economies.” Capable of meeting the needs of raising the standard of living in these countries. He also touched on the necessity of replacing the office into joint investment projects.”

The Libyan delegation also participated in the high-level meeting on the celebration of the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.

Al-Taher Al-Baour delivered a speech in which he affirmed “his country’s full support for efforts aimed at establishing more zones free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction in the region and throughout the world.”

He pointed out “Libya’s cooperation with the member states of the conference to accelerate the establishment of a legal agreement binding on all states parties in the region.” In a way that guarantees regional and international peace and security, he also reaffirmed that Libya will spare no effort to contribute effectively to international efforts aimed at eliminating nuclear weapons from the entire world.”

Al-Taher Al-Baour participated in the high-level meeting of the African Union Committee on Security Council Reform (C10), chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sierra Leone, and in the presence of the Minister of the Republic of China, as it is the one leading the reform process in implementation of the outcomes of the “China-Africa Summit” held in Beijing in September 2024.

The participants affirmed “the African continent’s right to permanent seats in the Security Council, in accordance with the Ozlini Agreement and the Sirte Declaration.”

As part of the preparations for the high-level visit of an African Union delegation next October, Taher Al-Baour met, on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, with Mauritanian Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Marzouk.

The meeting discussed the necessary arrangements for the success of the visit, and a number of other topics and files of common interest were discussed.
