Head of the National Unity Government, Minister of Defense, Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba, held a meeting this evening with Assistant Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Salah Al-Namroush.

The government media office reported that the meeting comes to follow up on the work of the joint military force to secure the Ras Ijdir crossing, formed by the Chief of General Staff.

During the meeting, Al-Dabaiba stressed that the primary goal should be to extend security at the gate away from political and tribal tensions, and that this should be the basic message of this force, calling on municipalities and notables to support the state and stand with it in extending its influence in all ports without exception.

Earlier, the Zuwara Military Operations Room announced that an agreement had been reached between the components of the city of Zuwara and the General Staff regarding securing and reopening the Ras Ijdir border crossing with Tunisia.

The Chamber reported that after agreement and coordination between the concerned authorities, a military force from several brigades affiliated with the Chief of Staff, under the supervision of the Western Military Region and in coordination with the Zuwara Military Operations Room, is heading to the Ras Ijdir port in order to prepare for its reopening by the competent authority.

In turn, Assistant Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Salah Al-Nimrash confirmed that the military force composed of military units is tasked with establishing security in Ras Ijdir and does not carry within it political or tribal tensions and was formed to extinguish any fuse that threatens social peace.

Al-Namroush explained that one of the tasks of the military force is to hand over the crossing to the competent authorities in the security services and support them to stop smuggling and chaos caused by outlaw parties.

The Assistant Chief of General Staff called on all regions and municipalities to move away from regionalism and tribalism, and to support the military force formed by the Chief of Staff to complete all the work entrusted to it aimed at the public interest.
