Head of the National Unity Government, Minister of Defense, Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba, followed the work of the group of operations to extend security and support the security and police services in the Ras Ijdir border region, during his meeting with the Assistant Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Salah Al-Namroush.

Al-Namroush presented a position on the security situation in the border region, stressing that the situation is stable, and coordination is underway with the Ministry of the Interior regarding preparing the necessary arrangements for the opening of the crossing and the return of work at it, and with the Administrative Centers Development and Development Authority regarding maintenance work and the implementation of a number of administrative buildings, according to what the government media office reported. .

The head of the Joint Security Chamber, Major General Abdul Hakim Al-Khaitouni, his assistant, Moghaddam Ali Al-Jabri, and members of the chamber arrived last Monday at the Ras Jadeer border crossing, based on the instructions of the Minister of Interior-designate, Imad Trabelsi.

This visit came to assess the security situation and the damage that occurred to it, in coordination with the Chief of General Staff of the Libyan Army, and to prepare the report on the port in order to make arrangements to reopen it.

Earlier, the Minister of the Interior in charge of the National Unity Government, Imad Trabelsi, said that coordination had been made with the official authorities in the country to secure the Ras Ijdir border crossing with Tunisia.

Al-Trabelsi added, in a video speech published on the ministry’s official page on Facebook, that all airports and ports in Tripoli, Misrata, and Zintan are under control, except for the Ras Ijdir crossing.

He added: “All the crossings involve smuggling, but the Ras Ijdir crossing is outside our control.”

The minister indicated that the security room formed in Al-Assa will work to confront illegal immigration and smuggling, explaining that the reason for its presence in the Al-Assa area is the small size of the Abu Kammash area, where the Chief of Staff forces are located.

Trabelsi noted that Assistant Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Salah Al-Namroush officially wrote to him that things are good and the Ministry of Interior can take over the Ras Ijdir crossing.

The Minister of Interior confirmed that the Ras Ijdir port will be opened before Eid al-Fitr if the policemen are not attacked, adding that if this happens, he will respond with force and the army will confront any attempt to attack the police.

Trabelsi continued, saying: “There will not be any weapons from Abu Kammash to Ras Ijdir.”
