In the “Al Alia lotissement” camp in Amizmiz, agents of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) were, on Saturday, working to supply electricity to all the tents sheltering people whose homes were totally or partially damaged during the earthquake in this commune.

In a statement to MAP, Mohamed Bouhima of ONEE indicated that the Office’s teams carried out, at the start of this operation, a census of the tents to be supplied with electricity, adding that so far, more than 50% of the tents have been connected to the electricity network.

This operation, currently being carried out with the contribution of several private companies from all over Morocco, will have a positive impact on improving the living conditions of the populations concerned, he said, adding that each tent is equipped with a lamp and power strips.

Residents of the “Al Alia housing estate” camp welcomed this initiative, which is taking place under the supervision of local authorities, highlighting its impact in terms of improving housing conditions while waiting to return to their former lives, with the activation of the emergency program for the rehousing of disaster victims and the care of the categories most affected by the Al Haouz earthquake, ordered by His Majesty the King.

HM King Mohammed VI had given His Instructions to mobilize all means, with the necessary speed and efficiency, to come to the aid of disaster-stricken families and citizens and in particular to deploy as soon as possible rehabilitation and reconstruction actions in the localities affected by this natural disaster.

The first version of the rehousing program presented to the Sovereign, and which was prepared by the interministerial commission set up on High Royal Instructions, concerns approximately 50,000 totally or partially collapsed housing units, in the five affected provinces.
