Al Haouz earthquake: Taroudant dams operating normally (official)

Taroudant – The dams located in the province of Taroudant were not impacted by the earthquake of September 8 and continue to operate normally, assured the director of the Souss-Massa Hydraulic Basin Agency (ABH), Rachid Meddah.

The main hydraulic structures of the province, namely the Mokhtar Soussi, Aoulouz, Imi Lkheng and Abdelmoumen dams, continue to fulfill their usual functions in terms of drinking water supply, irrigation and production of electric energy, Mr. Meddah said in a statement to MAP.

The operating teams continue to monitor these hydraulic structures according to the approved protocol, in coordination with the central unit at the Ministry of Equipment and Water and the General Directorate of Hydraulics.

The Ministry of Equipment and Water had indicated that it had carried out inspections of all the dams in the Kingdom, whether in operation or under construction, since the night of September 8, stressing that these hydraulic structures had not suffered any damage following the earthquake.

The monitoring of the condition of all dams in the Kingdom is ensured permanently by a monitoring unit at the central level at the General Directorate of Hydraulics, as well as by technical teams from the hydraulic basin agencies, supported by experts from design offices, added the same source, specifying that no malfunction has been recorded at any dam on the national territory.
