Al-Hawaij calls on French companies to invest in Libya

During his meeting with the French Ambassador to Libya, Mustafa Maharaj, the Minister of Economy and Trade in the Government of National Unity, Muhammad Al-Hawaij, called on “French companies to invest in the fields of energy, oil and gas, to support and move the wheel of investment in the sectors targeted within the Ministry’s economic development and diversification plan.”

During the meeting, Al-Hawaij expressed “his ministry’s readiness to provide all facilities to French companies and investors to enter the Libyan market, and to create a true partnership between the private sector that helps move the wheel of the national economy.”

Al-Hawaij sent “an invitation to French companies to participate in the activities of the Tripoli International Fair scheduled to be held in May,” stressing “the necessity of granting visas to Libyans from within the French embassy in Libya.”

The Minister called on the Ministry’s Foreign Trade and International Cooperation Department to coordinate with the Commercial Office of the French Embassy regarding the activation of agreements and memorandums of understanding between the two countries.

For his part, “the French ambassador stressed the necessity of organizing a joint economic forum in the capital, Tripoli, during the year 2024,” noting that “his country’s embassy is working to provide visa procedures for Libyans through the Tripoli office before the end of the year.”

The meeting also discussed “the progress of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, and stressing the importance of cooperation with French companies in agricultural and livestock systems, food security, and training and qualification of human cadres.”

The meeting was attended by the Director of the Foreign Trade and International Cooperation Department at the Ministry, Issam Al-Malhouf, the Head of the Commercial Representation Department, Abdul Rahman Al-Shteiwi, and the Head of the Economic Department at the French Embassy, ​​Yvan Pottier.
