Doha: The Qatar Public Works Authority (QPA) has announced that major construction work on the Al Khor-Daqeera Sewage Treatment Project (STW) has been completed. Ashgabat said the project, which will benefit more than two lakh residents in the Al Khor and Daqeera areas in northern Qatar, has entered a pilot phase. Upon completion of the project, the old and temporary wastewater treatment plants were shut down. The operation of the Daqeera treatment plant was shut down by the end of 2020. The new Al Khor-Daqeera plant has a capacity of 56,200 cubic meters per day.

Sequential batch reactors are used for biological treatment and modern systems such as ultraviolet filtration, ultraviolet and chlorination systems are used for wastewater treatment. The treated water will be used for irrigation in parks and green areas in the region. It will also irrigate Albeit, one of the main venues for the World Cup football tournament. The project includes the construction of a new pumping station at Daqeera and the expansion of the existing pumping station at Al Khor. In addition, 114 km of transmission pipelines have been laid as part of the project.
