The member of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, announced his rejection of a decision attributed to the head of the council, Muhammad Al-Manfi, regarding the formation of the board of directors of the “National Commission for Referendum and Inquiry.”

Al-Lafi pointed out that “any unilateral decision issued by any of the three members, whether the president or the two deputies of the council, is considered invalid and has no legal effect.”

A circulated decision signed by Mohamed Al-Manfi was issued on Thursday, stipulating the formation of a board of directors for the National Commission for Referendum and National Inquiry, headed by Othman Al-Qajiji, and the membership of 13 others, in follow-up to his decision issued a month ago to establish the commission.

The circulated decision granted the Commission the authority to accredit local and international observers, as well as local and international media professionals, to ensure comprehensive coverage and transparency in the direct or indirect presentation of the electoral process.

According to the decision, the President of the Presidential Council is the one who determines the issues that require conducting the referendum process and approving its results, while ensuring the neutrality of the Commission and its commitment to the transparency of the process conducted under its supervision.

About a month ago, the House of Representatives announced its rejection of the decision to establish the commission, considering it an “excess of the powers of the Presidential Council,” and demanded its immediate withdrawal.
