Yesterday, Sunday, the Ministry of Education held a celebration to mark the launch of the first phase of the Reading Challenge initiative, which aims to encourage Arab youth to read and create an educated generation informed about issues that concern Arab societies.
The Minister of Education, Musa Al-Magarif, during his attendance at the celebration at the Abdullah bin Masoud School, Supervision of Education, confirmed the Ministry’s intention to launch a national version of the initiative, and to work on distributing libraries to 900 educational institutions during the coming period.
Al-Maqrif stressed the importance of reading in expanding students’ understanding, praising the educational and pedagogical efforts of the family and all students.
The Chairman of the Supreme Committee of the Arab Reading Challenge Initiative, Dr. Ali Qanun, provided a detailed explanation regarding the initiative, which is organized by the UAE and in which Libya will participate for the first time, in the eighth session, explaining that next Wednesday will witness the launch of the first stages of the initiative through competition at the level of the educational institution, all the way to To choose 10 students who will represent the country of Libya.
The celebration was attended by the Minister’s Advisor, the Chairman and members of the Supreme Committee of the Arab Reading Challenge Initiative, the Director of the School Activity Department, the Superintendent of Education Souq Al-Jumaa, a number of office directors in the Supervision Bureau, and a group of male and female teachers, students and their parents.
Yesterday, the Supreme Committee of the Arab Reading Challenge Initiative discussed preparations for the launch of the competition stages, during its meeting at Abdullah bin Masoud School, Supervision of Education, Friday Market.
The attendees reviewed the stages of the competition and the timetable for each, starting with the competition at the educational institution level, which will be held on the twenty-fourth of this month, during which three students from each school will be selected.
The participants also discussed the evaluation criteria for pupils and students during the competition stages, which will be undertaken by the offices and branches of the Educational Inspection and Guidance Department, as well as discussing the role of the activity management in introducing the stages of the initiative that aims to encourage reading, reaching the largest number of students in the coming years.
The Arab Reading Challenge project aims to encourage students in the Arab world to read through the commitment of more than one million students to participate in reading 5 million books during each academic year, as well as awareness of the importance of reading and developing students’ Arabic language skills.
