The Director of the Moral Guidance Department, Major General Khaled Al-Mahjoub, responded to what was stated in the International Atomic Energy Agency’s report on the loss of 2.5 tons of uranium.

Al-Mahjoub said in a statement that the Secretary-General of the General Command of the Armed Forces said that the site was visited in the south of Libya in the year 2020 by members of the agency, and the existing number was inventoried; Pointing out that the warehouse door was sealed with red wax.

Al-Mahjoub indicated that based on the coordination that took place with the agency and the seriousness of these materials, it was agreed to assign female guards to preserve them.

Al-Mahjoub confirmed that Mr. Massimo from the agency pledged to provide the needs of female guards, which include special clothes, masks, and others, to protect those assigned to guard against diseases caused by this substance, such as paralysis, sterility, and others.

Al-Mahjoub confirmed that the agency did not provide it, and it is not available to the army, despite the ban on it, which required the presence of guard members at a far distance to ensure that they are not injured or exposed to the dangers of injury.

Al-Mahjoub said that Mr. Massimo from the agency came to the office of the Secretary-General of the Libyan Army and reported the disappearance of 10 barrels and the presence of an opening in the warehouse from the side that allows the exit of the volume of one barrel.
Al-Mahjoub confirmed that measures were taken, and a force from the army was assigned, and these barrels were found in an area that is only about 5 kilometers from the warehouse in the direction of the Chadian border.

Al-Mahjoub indicated that a video was taken of the quantity that was lost and that it was seized so that the agency would send specialists to deal with it. He informed Mr. Massimo not to announce the loss of the quantity as it is present and that whoever seized it is ignorant of its nature and does not know its danger and left it after realizing that it is useless.

Al-Mahjoub said that it is most likely that one of the Chadian factions expected that this warehouse, which has its guards in this empty area, would contain ammunition or weapons that they could benefit from.

Al-Mahjoub emphasized that dealing with these dangerous and radioactive materials, and by virtue of the agency’s follow-up to them, requires real support to preserve them and deal safely with them due to their danger.
