The head of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, called on the Libyan people to adhere to their national unity and reject foreign interference.

This came in his speech, today, Wednesday, before the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Al-Manfi added: “I say to the generous Libyan people, it is time for us to close ranks and build bridges of unity, to make our solidarity the cornerstone of our country, this generous country, and its generous people who love life. I tell you that we will not enjoy our blessings, our wealth, and our country as long as the seeds of discord and strife continue to grow among us. Our unity is the key to our stability, and it is the hope that will carry our children towards a better future.”

He added: “History bears witness to the greatness of this people, who have inspired nations and peoples throughout the ages, and proves that, despite all the challenges they have gone through, they always return stronger, more resilient and more courageous. Libyans do not forget those who stood by them in moments of hardship, and we will remain true to our pledge, working to build a bright future worthy of the aspirations and hopes of our people and our nation, and we will not skimp on any sacrifice for it.”

The President of the Presidential Council stressed that the comprehensive political solution with its financial, economic and security tracks, in addition to the national reconciliation track, is the only way to unify institutions and ensure stability leading to elections, renewing legitimacy for all institutions, and allowing the Libyan people to determine their own destiny.

Al-Manfi also noted that the national reconciliation project sponsored by the Presidential Council is proceeding at a slow pace as a result of the recent developments witnessed by the country, and the attempts of some political parties to obstruct it by all means.
