Al-Menfi attacks Parliament in a hint, and says that the country’s division is due to “systematic obstruction.”

Presidential Council President Mohamed Al-Menfi called for the need for concerted international and regional efforts to help Libya cross the stage of political division and restore stability, in his speech before the United Nations General Assembly.

Al-Manfi pointed out that Libya has suffered successive transitional stages for more than a decade, marred by many conflicts and unjustified wars between brothers, which were fueled by external interventions seeking to weaken the state, deepen discord, and control its natural resources and political and economic decision-making.

Referring to the recent political crisis, Al-Manfi said that the institutional division resulting from systematic obstruction by some political parties, which led to the exacerbation of the political crisis, starting from the creation of parallel bodies, to freezing and canceling commitment to concluded political agreements and relevant Security Council resolutions, all the way to the use of… State resources as a tool for political pressure, and most recently, an attempt to tamper with the Libyan judiciary.

The solution lies in comprehensive elections

Al-Manfi said that the solution is the comprehensive political path with its financial, economic and security paths, in addition to national reconciliation to unify institutions and ensure stability leading to elections.

He stressed that the Libyan people have the right to determine their fate and choose who will rule them and manage their affairs and wealth, calling for the need to give the Libyan people the opportunity to decide on their future through comprehensive elections to end any political blockage.

Al-Manfi pointed out that the national reconciliation project sponsored by the Presidential Council is proceeding at a slow pace as a result of the recent developments that the country has witnessed, and the attempt of some political parties to obstruct it by all means, stressing the importance of accelerating this path to establish and consolidate confidence.

Al-Manfi stressed the need for all parties to participate constructively in a Libyan dialogue in order to achieve a national charter and a comprehensive reconciliation conference, to reach a peaceful settlement based on the Libyan-Libyan solution, away from external dictates and interference.

The Derna disaster and the Gaza aggression

On the occasion of the one-year anniversary of the Derna disaster; Al-Manfi expressed deep sadness over the destruction of parts of the city and its surroundings due to Storm Daniel, stressing the importance of supporting the sincere efforts made for recovery in preparation for reconstruction in all parts of the country.

With regard to the Palestinian issue; Al-Manfi stressed the need to address the situation in Gaza and stop the serious violations and attacks in Palestine to banish the specter of a regional war in the region, stressing the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and to establish their independent state with Holy Jerusalem as its capital.

Combating immigration and terrorism

Al-Manfi also stressed the need for concerted efforts in combating irregular migration and terrorism, considering that these issues represent a major challenge for many countries, especially African countries and countries in the region, noting that Libya bears a large burden in the immigration file as it is a transit country.

He pointed out that resolving this issue requires concerted efforts, taking into account national legislation, humanitarian aspects, and protecting the rights of migrants.

We reject foreign interference

Al-Manfi concluded his speech with a speech addressed to the Libyan people, where he stressed the necessity of clinging to Libya’s national unity and rejecting foreign interference, noting that Libya always returns stronger, more solid, and more powerful, despite all the challenges it has gone through.
