This groundbreaking project, the first of its kind in Al-Quds hospitals, was launched by Mohamed Salem Cherkaoui, director of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency, and Adnane Farhoud, general director of the hospital, in the presence of Makassed Association officials and prominent figures from Maqdissi.
The project aims to honor deceased individuals before their handover to their families for burial.
The two units, constructed and equipped at an estimated cost of $180,000, include six mortuary toilet rooms adhering to Islamic Sharia law, three morgues, and a waiting room for the deceased’s relatives.
The 100 m2 facility will serve the residents of the Old City of Al-Qud and its suburbs, home to a population of 80,000.
During the ceremony, Mr. Farhoud expressed heartfelt gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, President of the Al-Quds Committee, for his generous contribution that benefits the people of Maqdissi, who lack such facilities in healthcare facilities in East Al-Quds.
Mr. Salem Cherkaoui emphasized the importance of the project, highlighting its alignment with the Agency’s ongoing efforts, under the High Directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to support the Holy City and its inhabitants through impactful social projects.
Mr. Cherkaoui, accompanied by the hospital CEO and his team, also toured other projects implemented by the Agency within the building over the past decade, including the emergency services, dental clinics, and the “Ibn Sina” neurosurgery center.
Makassed Hospital, the largest in Al-Quds, has been providing healthcare services to the populations of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip since its establishment in 1966. It is also a university hospital that has trained numerous healthcare professionals in Palestine.
