The opening of this unit, which is part of the Agency’s budget allocated this year to support the health sector, was supervised by the director in charge of management of the Agency Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif, Mohamed Salem Cherkaoui, accompanied by the director of the Makassed charity hospital, Dr Adnan Farhoud, in the presence of several members of the Palestinian medical staff.
On this occasion, Mr. Cherkaoui declared that the realization of this project is part of the constant concern of His Majesty King Mohammed VI towards the city of Al-Quds and its inhabitants, and reflects the Agency’s commitment to implementing its commitments stipulated in the cooperation protocol, which was signed in Rabat last February, during the visit of the delegation of the Al-Quds Hospitals Network -East in Morocco.
He highlighted that the vigilance, coordination and monitoring unit will constitute, with the field hospital, when it is subsequently handed over to the Red Crescent hospital in Al-Quds, a pillar to facilitate the communication between emergency teams on the ground and emergency teams at Al-Makassed Hospital as it is the reference institution for emergencies in Al-Quds.
For his part, Dr Adnan Farhoud indicated that this unit, which is equipped with an information system for connectivity and coordination and communication devices, and run by technicians under the supervision of medical and nurse, will strengthen the roles played by the Al-Quds East Hospitals Network in liaison and networking between hospitals in emergency cases.
Dr. Farhoud, on his behalf and on behalf of the hospital staff, expressed his feelings of gratitude to the Kingdom of Morocco and His Majesty King Mohammed VI, praising the level of the Moroccan health system, as well as the hospital facilities and medical staff Moroccans that he visited during his trip to Morocco with the delegation of Al-Quds-East hospitals last February.
The cooperation protocol signed by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency with the Al-Quds East Hospital Network and the Al-Quds Red Crescent Hospital aims to organize training in Al-Quds or elsewhere for the benefit of medical and administrative staff specializing in emergencies.
The agreement also aims to organize visits to exchange experiences between doctors and nursing and administrative staff specializing in emergencies from Al-Quds to Morocco and other countries, to set up joint programs for the continued development of techniques and human resources skills and to schedule joint scientific meetings.
Interview Between Time.news Editor and Health Sector Expert
Time.news Editor (TNE): Welcome to Time.news! Today, we have the privilege of speaking with Dr. Sarah El-Amin, a well-respected expert in healthcare management and policy, with extensive experience in the Palestinian health sector. Thank you for joining us, Dr. El-Amin.
Dr. Sarah El-Amin (DSEA): Thank you for having me! It’s a pleasure to be here.
TNE: Let’s start with the recent opening of the new health unit in Al-Quds, supervised by Mohamed Salem Cherkaoui from the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency. Can you share your insights on the significance of this project for the local healthcare landscape?
DSEA: Absolutely! The establishment of this vigilance, coordination, and monitoring unit represents a substantial commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure in Al-Quds. It is crucial not just for immediate medical assistance, but for the long-term strategic development of healthcare services in the area.
TNE: The project is linked to His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s concern for Al-Quds and its inhabitants. How do you see the role of international cooperation in strengthening healthcare in Palestine?
DSEA: International cooperation is vital, especially in regions facing political and social challenges like Palestine. The protocol signed in Rabat serves as a foundation for collaboration, aligning Moroccan efforts with local needs. It can foster a more comprehensive healthcare framework, enhancing resource sharing, training, and technology transfer, which are essential for sustainable development.
TNE: You mentioned the importance of coordination. Could you elaborate on how the new unit will facilitate communication among healthcare providers?
DSEA: Certainly! Effective communication among medical staff is crucial for timely patient care. This new unit will improve data sharing and coordinate emergency responses between the field hospital and the existing facilities, like the Red Crescent hospital in Al-Quds. It will streamline operations and ensure that patients receive the best possible care without unnecessary delays.
TNE: How do you foresee the impact of this new unit on the local medical staff and their capacity to serve the community?
DSEA: This initiative is likely to empower local medical staff significantly. With enhanced support structures and resources, healthcare professionals will be better equipped to respond to the needs of the community. Moreover, ongoing training and exposure to best practices through this unit can elevate the overall standard of care in Al-Quds.
TNE: It’s promising to hear about the potential benefits. As an expert, what are some of the ongoing challenges you believe need to be addressed to further enhance healthcare in the region?
DSEA: One of the primary challenges is ensuring consistent funding and resource allocation. Political instability can hinder project sustainability. Additionally, addressing social determinants of health, such as access to clean water and adequate housing, is crucial for a holistic approach. Lastly, ongoing training and keeping healthcare workers motivated is essential for retaining talent in the area.
TNE: Thank you for those insights, Dr. El-Amin. As we wrap up, what message would you like to give to our readers about the importance of supporting healthcare initiatives in regions facing challenges like Palestine?
DSEA: I would emphasize that healthcare is a fundamental human right. Supporting initiatives like this not only addresses immediate health needs but also contributes to building resilient healthcare systems. Every effort counts toward creating a healthier future for communities like those in Al-Quds. Remember, when we invest in health, we invest in hope and stability.
TNE: A powerful message to end on! Thank you again for your time, Dr. El-Amin, and for sharing your valuable perspectives with us.
DSEA: Thank you for having me! It’s been a pleasure discussing these important issues.
