The Minister of Interior in charge of the Government of National Unity, Imad Trabelsi, chaired an expanded security meeting today, Sunday, in the presence of the security directors of the western region, a number of department directors in the ministry, and members of the committee to address the fuel and gas crisis.

The Ministry of Interior reported that the meeting discussed the progress of the fuel distribution process to the stations and its follow-up by the security directors in the concerned areas.

Al-Tarabulsi stressed that the committee is working seriously to provide services to citizens according to plans aimed at addressing all the problems and difficulties they face in obtaining fuel, adding that the ministry has issued clear instructions to security directors to secure fuel stations and directly supervise the distribution process.

Al-Tarabulsi pointed out that the ministry has equipped all security directorates in the western region with the necessary support, similar to what was provided to other directorates, stressing that any interference in the work of the police from any party was completely unacceptable.

The Minister explained that the police contribute effectively to ensuring that fuel reaches citizens, stressing that the western region suffers from fuel smuggling operations that affect supplies. Therefore, he issued strict directives to prevent the sale of fuel barrels on public roads, and held security directors responsible for that.

The Director General of Security Operations was also assigned to follow up with security directors in fuel distribution operations and prevent any violations in selling it outside stations or smuggling it, stressing that the committee has put in place precise mechanisms to follow up on fuel trucks until they reach the stations, in coordination with the security directorates.

The Minister of Interior confirmed that fuel smuggling is the main reason for the current fuel crisis, and that the areas west of Tripoli consume two million liters of fuel daily, stressing that the Ministry’s work at this stage focuses on the security aspect, calling for concerted efforts to address all bottlenecks that affect the lives of citizens.

The Minister also expressed his support for all efforts that contribute to maintaining security and protecting the nation’s and citizens’ resources, directing security directors to prepare periodic reports on violations occurring at some stations in order to take appropriate measures in this regard.
