The Minister of Interior in charge of the Government of National Unity, Imad Trabelsi, denied rumors about a military attack on the Central Bank of Libya.

Al-Tarabulsi said in a press conference on Friday evening regarding the security developments: “We assure the Libyans that there is no attack on the central bank and there is nothing by force, and the decision to change the central bank was issued by an official body and it is an administrative matter that is not within our jurisdiction.”

He added: “We hope that the House of Representatives and the State Council will reach an agreement on the Central Bank and the elections.”

The Minister stressed that all security and military forces will abide by the Presidential Council’s decision regarding the Central Bank.

Al-Tarabulsi also confirmed that there will be no military forces stationed in Tripoli and all forces will return to their main headquarters, and all formations will withdraw from securing the street and the ministry and the security directorate will be responsible for securing the street through rescue, traffic, criminal investigation and central support only.

Al-Tarabulsi continued: “What happened today and yesterday is a gain for all Libyans so that the security services can reorganize their affairs and you will see a new capital, especially in the security file.”

The Minister of Interior in charge revealed details of the meetings and security coordination in the capital during the last hours, and indicated that a meeting was held yesterday that continued until the morning hours to spare the capital the danger of war.

Al-Tarabulsi explained that it was agreed in the meeting to hand over the airports and ports to the official agencies only, and the plan also includes withdrawing all armed formations in the capital to their main headquarters.

He added, “There is no intention of armed conflict in Tripoli, but the imposition of force is required to secure it.”

Al-Tarabulsi sent a reassuring message to all embassies and diplomatic missions, stressing that the security situation is proceeding normally and there are no concerns.
