The Minister of State for Women’s Affairs in the Government of National Unity, Houria Tarmal, received Florence Basti, the representative of UN Women to Libya.
At the beginning of the meeting, Basti expressed her appreciation for the great efforts made by the Minister to support and empower Libyan women, stressing that these efforts represent a role model for enhancing the role of women in various fields.
During the meeting, Basti reviewed UN Women’s priorities for 2025, which focus on empowering Libyan women in the political field, while benefiting from the pioneering regional experiences in Morocco and Tunisia, with the aim of enhancing women’s participation in decision-making.
She stressed that this cooperation will include building the capabilities of women working in the Ministry of Finance in coordination with the Ministry of Labor, in addition to launching other initiatives aimed at developing women’s leadership skills.
The urgent need for major media support for Libyan women was also stressed, with the aim of highlighting their success stories and enhancing community awareness of their roles and rights. She explained that the 2025 action plan will focus on training in the political and media fields.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Minister stressed the importance of fruitful cooperation with UN Women, noting that this partnership represents a decisive step towards achieving sustainable development and empowering Libyan women in all fields.
She also stressed the need to integrate Libyan women into all international and regional forums, out of belief in their pivotal role in building the country’s future.
