The Minister of Local Government in the Government of National Unity, “Badr al-Din al-Toumi,” accompanied by the head of the Supreme Technical Committee in charge of studying the phenomenon of ground cracks, “Saleh al-Sadiq,” today, Sunday, visited the municipality of Isbi’a, specifically the Ouled Abu Aisha area, “to look closely at developments in the phenomenon.” “Ground cracks, which were exacerbated by the recent heavy rainfall in the region, are required to assess the situation and take the necessary measures to deal with the repercussions of this phenomenon and mitigate the damage that may result from it.”

The Minister gave instructions to the “Dean of the Municipality of Isbeya to urgently evacuate the homes located between these cracks, and to provide rent allowance to the citizens living in them. He also directed the technical committee in charge of studying the phenomenon to work urgently to complete the study and increase its area due to the increasing area of ​​erosion.”

The Minister and the work team accompanying him were received by the Dean of the Municipal Council, “Walid Saber,” the Council Member, “Muhammad Al-Quwaid,” a number of directors of departments and offices in the Council, and a group of residents of the region.

The minister and the team of the technical committee charged with studying this phenomenon moved to the area of ​​the cracks “to explore developments in the phenomenon, and to visit all the sites that witnessed cracks or depressions.”

The committee team and the people of the region provided the necessary information to the minister about the geological nature of the region and the history of this phenomenon, as the head of the committee, “Saleh Al-Sadiq,” explained, “The committee carried out many visits to the region to follow up on developments in this phenomenon, explaining that the heavy rains that fell during the past days led to The movement of the valley’s waters, which in turn led to the growth of these cracks and caused very large drifts that swallowed hundreds of cubic meters of soil and thousands of cubic meters of water.”

The head of the committee warned of “the seriousness of the situation, stressing the need to take urgent measures to mitigate the risks of this phenomenon, explaining that the drifts have become very large and at great depths, warning of the possibility of increasing the size and depth of these drifts in the event of further heavy rains.”

For their part, the people of the region explained that “one of these landslides occurred in the 1990s, which means that it is not a new phenomenon in the region. As for the second and third landslides, they occurred during the past year, while the last landslides occurred after heavy rains fell in the recent period.”

It should be noted that this visit “comes as part of the government’s efforts to monitor natural phenomena, provide support and assistance to the areas affected by this phenomenon, and enhance cooperation between the concerned authorities to ensure the safety of citizens and preserve the environment.”
