Alabama’s Nick Saban’s future as a football coach uncertain after defeat to Michigan

There is no official word yet on whether Nick Saban will continue as Alabama’s football coach after his team’s loss to Michigan, 27-20, in overtime Monday in the Rose Bowl.

Terry Saban, wife of the 72-year-old coach, revealed that her husband, following his postgame press conference, opted to watch a movie on Netflix rather than tuning in to the second College Football Playoff semifinal game between Texas and Washington.

When asked if Saban would continue coaching, a young woman interjected and said, “We’re not answering questions like that right now.”

Saban did not address his plans for next season but indicated that the final play call of Alabama’s season came from his first-year offensive coordinator, Tommy Rees – a call that didn’t go down in history as one of Alabama’s favorites following a fourth-and-goal attempt that ended in a disappointing loss.

Despite the defeat, Saban raved about the team’s season turnaround, acknowledging the disappointment of the loss but also expressing pride in the team’s accomplishments.

Alabama’s season seemed on the brink of unraveling, but the team turned things around during an 11-game winning streak culminating in the SEC Championship game victory over Georgia.

Saban described the team’s improvement as exceptional, noting that the commitment and hard work displayed by the players contributed to the team’s success.

As for the issues on the field, quarterback Jalen Milroe and senior center Seth McLaughlin faced an ongoing challenge with the quarterback-center exchange, an issue they struggled to resolve throughout the season.

The defeat has left questions looming over Nick Saban’s future as Alabama’s head coach, but for now, Saban is focusing on reflecting on the season and the remarkable journey of the Crimson Tide.
